[NOTE: After making this list I came across Chuck Klosterman's essay "The Awe-Inspiring Beauty of Tom Cruise's Shattered, Troll-like Face" (featured in his book Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs*) in which he discusses what he calls the the recent spat of "What is Reality" films. He includes a number of the above films in his article plus Mulholland Drive, Being John Malkovich, and Donnie Darko...but mostly he discusses Vanilla Sky, my least favorite of all these "types" of films.]
